Example of Fusible Sheath-Core Yarn in a Braided Cord

Before Thermal Fusing

After Thermal Fusing

The filaments in Fusible Polyester yarns are comprised of two different melting temperature polymers in a coaxial, or core-sheath, configuration. The sheath polymer melts at about 100° C less than the core polymer, allowing the tensile properties of the core to remain intact. Thermal bonding is achieved from about 160 through 190° C.

Fusible Polyester yarns can be heat activated to...

  • bond fibers together
  • seal yarn or fabric interstices
  • bond materials together
  • laminate film to fabric
  • improve fabric ravel and fray resistances
  • improve sewn seam performance
  • prevent yarn slippage
  • seal knots
  • weld splices
  • mold fabrics
  • pleate fabrics

Fusible Polyester is well suited for

  • Knitting
  • Braiding
  • Weaving
  • Sewing
  • Laminating
  • Molding
  • Pleating
